Samsung Electronics South Africa has used Decorex Africa to bring its innovative Magic Frame speaker to South African shelves. In a curated musical event yesterday, audience members arrived to the sound of music emitted from the new Magic Frame. The Magic Frame is one of Samsung’s freshest releases to focus on electronic products that double as tech and furniture.
Samsung’s innovation plans
Samsung believes that the future of tech consumerism lies in devices that are rendered invisible through their integration into everyday items. Samsung began with “lifestyle TVs” – the Serif, the Frame, and the Sero. Since TVs spend most of their time idle, these switch to Ambient or Art Mode when not in use, converting a TV’s inactive screen into visually appealing décor. Its newest launch does the same thing for music. Plus, it plays music.
Enter the Magic Frame speaker
Samsung’s designers and engineers opted to create a frame-shaped speaker that emits sound through a gap between the frame and the panel. After much testing, 9mm was found to be Samsung’s ideal width. Furthermore, the rear woofer was engineered to minimize vibrations when mounted on a wall. The back panel is also simplified in case users prefer the Music Frame on a table instead.
Staying true to the Frame concept, users can replace the central photo with any of their choice. The Magic Frame is, after all, a very high-end photo frame. It comes in either black or white, to match your decor. For a more cinematic audio experience, users can enable Samsung’s Q-Symphony connected tech by placing two Magic Frames on either side of the TV. Surround sound is achieved a soundbar in front of the TV, with the Magic Frame on the wall behind. The functions are similar to the Sonos speaker ecosystem.
Unlike traditional speakers, which focus primarily on sound amplification, the Music Frame and its “lifestyle audio” concept, prioritises aesthetics as well as sound quality. By adopting the familiar form of a picture frame, the Magic Frame not only functions as furniture or tech but art as well. One can imagine someone with a bevy of multifunction electronic devices all over a home that act as art pieces while handling audio duties. The Samsung Magic Speaker is available for purchase online for R6,000 each.
