We may have just had our first peek at the Nintendo Switch 2

We’re in the endgame, gamers. It looks as though Nintendo’s assassins lawyers will be working overtime this week if the leak coming out of Reddit’s r/GamingLeaksAndRumors is true (thanks, u/MisterSheeple). See, despite all the less-than-substantial talk about the long-rumoured Switch 2 this year, Nintendo may have just been beaten to the punchline by some random warehouse worker who wants to watch the world burn.

Time to board the Switch 2 hype train

Unfortunately, the leak involving a supposed factory worker on a Chinese forum remains unverified at the time of writing, though we admit it looks mighty plausible. Still, we’d advise not getting your hopes up until Nintendo itself confirms the Switch 2, or whatever it’s called (which we reckon might just happen in early October). Until then, however, new renders, images and even specs are all we’ve got to work with.

Some 11 images were posted in the leak on the Chinese website xiaohongshu, with a caption that confirms a couple of things. Firstly, the Switch 2 will include an 8in display, “magnetic slide rail”, “two type-C interfaces” (mimicking the trend on newer gaming handhelds like the Legion Go) and a far slicker shell than we’re used to on the original Switch. Secondly, it removes the fears that Nintendo would pivot, inducing another Wii-U mishap.

Fortunately, it appears as though Nintendo’s stuck to the tried-and-true formula that made the Switch the massive hit it was (and still is) all these years later – detachable joy-cons and all.

Not long after the original post began making waves across Reddit and Famiboards, another user – on the same website – posted what appears to be a spec sheet for the Switch successor. Better yet, they happen to corroborate the specs and features shown off previously, like the measurements that can be seen in the image above.

The specs that caught our eye specifically, however, were the inclusion of LPDDR5X RAM (some comments mention 12GB RAM, though we can’t find a source for this), 256GB storage (trumping the 32GB available in the launch-day Switch, Nvidia GMLX30-R-A1 SoC and the addition of two cooling fans lodged in its innards.

Again, we’d recommend against betting your house on these leaks being real, but there’s no harm in getting at least a little excited ahead of the Switch 2’s official debut – hopefully arriving in the next couple of weeks.
