This could be the first image of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition smartphone

An image is currently floating around online claiming to show Samsung’s still-rumoured Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition smartphone. If that line sounds skeptical, that’s because the source of the image, Android Headlines, doesn’t explain where this image is supposed to have come from.

The image isn’t from the typical run of Samsung ‘leaks’, which tend to be lower-resolution versions of the company’s official photography. It looks nothing like any internal materials but could be a digital mock-up of the device. It may also be one of the ‘blanks’ used by case manufacturers to create accessories before a product is official. Whatever it is, the source remains murky.

That’s Special Edition

Still, if the leak is to be believed, this is what the Special Edition of Samsung’s newer, thinner Fold will look like. The image is entirely believable on that score since the phone conforms to what is already known about the unannounced device.

It’s somewhat broader and thinner, meaning it should line up with the reported 8in internal screen size and 10.6mm/4.9mm folded/unfolded thickness the Special Edition is supposed to launch with. But the leaked image also displays ragged edges along, perhaps as a result of the potato-cam that was used to capture the shot. It might also indicate that this is a non-functional shell, or perhaps someone didn’t render the image in a decent enough resolution.

Either way, this could be your first look at the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. Even when it’s official, you are likely to have to admire it from afar. It’s reportedly only launching in South Korea and China, with no other territories confirmed yet.
