Did you purchase one of Sony’s PSVR 2 headsets back when it launched for the PlayStation 5? Didn’t think so, but if you’re a PC gamer it might be time to investigate Sony’s headset. We’ve known for some time that it’ll get Steam support in August this year but now there’s an official date — 6 August.
That’s according to the official Steam page for the PSVR 2 app, which has gone live. The app gives out a fair amount of information for famously detailed PC gamers who might want to activate Sony hardware on their gaming rigs.

It’s not enough to have Sony’s second-generation VR headset and controllers, though both are required, as is the Steam app. You’ll also have to purchase the PC adaptor to enable communication between your setup and Sony’s kit. That has yet to be priced in South Africa but expect it to cost about the same as a brand-new console game purchased at retail.
You’ll also have to meet a few system requirements, presumably for Sony’s app and to get the PSVR 2 functioning as intended. A Core i5 7600 or a Ryzen 3 3100 is the minimum-sized processor you’ll need, along with at least 8GB of RAM. A base model Nvidia RTX (GTX 1060) or AMD RX 6500XT (RX 5500T) is the minimum GPU, but current-generation graphics cards are a better option. Also, you’ll need 700MB of storage but you’ll probably have that going spare on your solid-state gaming drive. Right?
The PSVR 2 app will allow for firmware updates of Sony’s hardware and will also integrate it with the Steam client, letting users adjust settings without faffing around with a second load of software. All that’s left now is the 6 August launch and (as far as Sony is concerned) the attendant bump in hardware sales.
