Is it a gift from the Department of Energy or just the government making sure that you get back from your holiday destination so you can continue going to work (on location)? Either way, you’ll be pleased to note that the petrol price will drop at midnight on 4 January. To save, you can either wait till Wednesday morning to fill up or just pour in just enough to get you by until then.
Petrol prices drop on 4 January 2023 by R2.06 for both 93 and 95 octanes. Diesel 0.05% will decrease by R2.69, and diesel 0.005% will decrease by R2.81.
Illuminating paraffin (wholesale) will drop by R1.93, but LP Gas increases by 82c/kg.
According to the Central Energy Fund (CEF), January’s fuel reductions are a result of a stronger average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate and significant decreases in international prices.
The Automobile Association (AA) says data shows the movement of international fuel prices is playing the most substantial role in the price reduction, despite the stronger Rand’s contribution to the same.
“These decreases will not take fuel prices to levels seen in January 2022 but will, nonetheless, go a long way to alleviating the fuel price burden – and its associated impact on other prices – felt by millions of South Africans,” adds the AA.
