It might be a bit early for this seeing as the iPhone 14 series is still fairly new on most shelves, but since we already have an idea of what to expect from the iPhone 15, here’s what we’d likesee when we eventually upgrade to the iPhone 15 in 2023.
Based on history, we’re expecting the iPhone 15 to roll out in September 2023.
Our wish includes some of Stuff’s Team’s hopes and dreams. The list also comes from rumours doing the rounds about what’s heading our way in the coming year.

1. It won’t be cheap… but we want it
According to a tweet by Apple leaker, LeaksApplePro, “iPhone 15 Ultra will cost substantially more to manufacture than iPhone 14 Pro Max”. It won’t be cheap and if you want it, you’ll probably have to pay for whatever it costs for Apple to create it. Outside of the US, the last Apple iPhone’s price was increased for basically everyone. We’re expecting the next generation to be pricy by the time it gets to SA. Nothing new here, we know. When have Apple products ever been cheap? Or even reasonably priced?

2. Everyone gets a visit to the Dynamic Island
The latest iPhone 14 Pro devices debuted Dynamic Island; Apple’s term for the camera cut-out at the top of the display. We’d like to see Dynamic Island expand to display widgets, timers, and quick controls. It’s like a mini multitasking bar for the iPhone.
It’s clear that Apple has put in some work in Dynamic Island, so we’re not expecting much new to be done on the iPhone 15. It’s just likely to end up appearing across the entire range this time. Some refinements to the feature would be great. Add pinned widgets on the Island and we’re (almost) satisfied.

3. Could Touch ID make a comeback?
We all had to put masks on over the past years (and some still do) and that revealed a flaw in Face ID. It might seem great that Face ID can recognise you with a mask on, but it also poses some security questions.
Apple has done some work around it, including adding the ability to unlock your iPhone using the Apple Watch.

It would be a good time to bring back Touch ID to the iPhone. Apple can place it under the display or in the power button, like the latest iPad mini.
How about the inclusion of both Face ID and Touch ID on the iPhone 15? This could make it the most secure smartphone available.
4. 8K video recording
We’ve been waiting for 8K video recording to (eventually) arrive on the iPhone. We’re still waiting and hoping to see it on the iPhone 15. The camera tech on the iPhone 14 and the 48MP snapper on the iPhone 14 Pro devices could mean that we’re approaching the camera tech required for 8K video.
Apple iPhones are already the best smartphone for video recording, and 8K capabilities on the iPhone 15 would take us to a whole new level. 8K displays are quickly becoming the norm and we’re ready to start recording crisp footage to go with the displays we already have.
5. Remove all the ports (yes, it’s time)
We’re ready for Apple to remove the ports from the iPhone. They declined to do so for the iPhone 14 but we want these gone when the iPhone 15 comes along. Apple’s Lightning connector just doesn’t cut it anymore. USB-C holds the crown as the de-facto standard. It’s more efficient and faster. We’re ready for it on the iPhone 15 next year. But the company may not move to USB-C at all.

It’s a bit tricky to gauge this one. Some (not always reliable) rumour mills expect Apple to drop ports from the iPhone entirely. It did so with the headphone jack with iPhone 7 and lost the SIM tray for the iPhone 14. To cancel the charge port entirely, Apple would have to offer a major enhancement in the iPhone’s wireless charging capability. Some reckon the iPhone will simply don a USB-C port, just as Apple did with iPads and Macs. Imagine if Apple eventually goes portless though. Now that would be something.
