Say what you want about South Africa but we’re a creative lot. A company called BunduTec has debuted a new camping trailer called the BunduTrail. Because it’s a trailer. And you take it to the bundus.
Which isn’t that big of a deal, surely. Every South African has seen a glamping setup heading for the bush the day before a long weekend has kicked off. But this particular camping setup is impressive enough that even the camping purists will be eying its occupants with a tinge of jealousy.
Taking the BunduTrail
The jealousy is because of how easy this thing is to set up. Its creators claim you’ll be up and running in ten minutes. This is quite a feat because it’s fully loaded. The BunduTrail is available in two sizes — 750kg and 1.1 ton — and when you’re not sleeping on top of the thing, it’s an entire campsite. The trailer ships with a fully-fitted kitchen. Everything from coffee cups to spice and a camp stove is included in the price.
The same goes for the electrical system. Deep cycle battery? Check. Roof-mounted solar panels? Check. Inverter, water pump, and extension cords? Check, check, and check. Gas bottles, regulators, and a gas geyser are also packed into this compact unit.

And then there’s the tent, which extends electrically from the midst of this densely-packed trailer. The BunduTrail sports built-in LED lights, fans, a 70-litre water tank, and a bed that’s just a shade smaller than an oversized double. Oh, yes, and a fridge/freezer combination. In the event you want to get changed without the wildlife checking you out, there’s a small room that fits the side of the trailer.
Sounds pretty sweet, right? But a list of excellent features tends to prompt an interesting price. If you were paying attention to the headline, you already know the cost of entry. R230,000 is enough to make one of these yours. What you do with it after that is entirely up to you, but it probably involves a good night’s sleep and hot coffee in the morning.
