It’s perhaps appropriate that a Samsung smartphone that isn’t changing much in terms of design won’t make many changes when it comes to its announcement and launch. The Galaxy S23, which we’ve already seen more or less intact, will supposedly show its face in early February next year.

That’s the world according to a Korean publication, which has a couple more beans to spill. The launch event will apparently take place in San Francisco in the first week of February. It’ll be closely followed by an international launch, on 17 February 2023.

Educated guesses and the Galaxy S23

It’s not really a stretch to believe that the Korean report is spot-on. It also doesn’t really require any inside information to make an accurate guess. Samsung’s first Unpacked for 2022 was set for 9 February and the Galaxy S22 turned up there. That’s a standard pattern for the tech maker.

What’s less standard is how Samsung’s Galaxy S23 will be powered next year. Normally, Samsung’s own Exynos chipsets run the company’s flagships. America tends to be the Qualcomm-powered exception but 2022 has thrown a little water on that particular fire.

There’s speculation, via SamMobile and a variety of other sources, that Samsung will make the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 standard across its flagship devices in 2023. That means the Galaxy S23 (and all its variants) as well as the later folding crop could be powered by Qualcomm.

The Exynos 2300 is apparently still in development but it hasn’t turned up in any of the usual spots yet. The same goes for the company’s Exynos 2200, which was expected in the Galaxy S22 this year. Eventually, the chip was shown but it never made it into any phones. This was despite Samsung keeping up appearances until the last minute. It’s not certain that 2023 will see a repeat of 2022, but at this point, it’s looking slightly likely.
