One day, everything will be Lego. Until that day comes, we’ll have to settle for just a few things being Lego. The newest item to be Lego-ified is the Polaroid OneStep SX-70. The upcoming Polaroid replica will launch at some point in 2023, after clearing the Lego Ideas approvals process.
Lego Ideas is a program that takes user-generated ideas and turns them into actual products. Provided, that is, they’re able to secure 10,000 or more votes during the vetting process. That’s how the International Space Station was created, as was The Office set and van Gogh’s Starry Night.
Getting a good shake
The Polaroid OneStep SX-70 was one of several sets to be approved by the Danish brick company. Created by Minibrick Productions, which is helmed by a mechanical engineer, the set is quite technically accomplished. It looks accurate (though the design is subject to change) and also includes a functional picture that can be spat out of the slot at the camera’s base.

Now that the OneStep SX-70 is an official Lego product, its design will go through a little more refining before it’s launched. Pricing and availability are also pending, but that tends to be typical of in-development products.
Also approved in the latest round of Lego Ideas are a Lego Insects set, a recreation of the Orient Express, and a series of sci-fi-themed Lego posters. That is, posters made from Lego. As with the Polaroid OneStep SX-70, pricing and availability for this lot will be announced at a later date.
