Mayday Mayday: WhatsApp is down

Yes, you read that correctly. WhatsApp is down. The messenger stopped sending and receiving messages on Android and iOS on Tuesday morning, resulting in what usually happens when the messaging platforms occasionally goes offline – panic.  Many have flocked onto other social media platforms to ask each other if they were all on the same page.

WhatsApp users reported having difficulty in sending and receiving messages, making calls as well as viewing status.

Some users reported their issues on Downdetector, a website that enables users to report some details about issues they may be experiencing with their tech. 74% of users experienced problems sending messages, 6% had difficulty receiving messages and  20%n experienced problems with the app generally (this could include other problems in addition to sending and receiving messages).

Consider making calls, sending e-mails or an SMS.

The Meta-owned messaging app is down in South Africa, and other parts of the world including the United Kingdom, and India.

What’s Happening?

Meta says it’s are aware of the problems with the app and WhatsApp Web, including issues with status updates, and voice and video calling.It says it is working on resolving the problem.
