You’ll need a loan to afford Apple’s Watch Ultra in South Africa

Last week the official pricing for the range of iPhone 14s and Apple Watches revealed hefty price points across the board. What we didn’t see was pricing for the Apple Watch Ultra. This was weird, considering the release date is 30 September, a week later than the other devices. Now, pricing has officially landed in SA. It’s not pretty.

An ultra price for the Ultra

Watch Ultra

The Apple Watch Ultra is clearly for the athletes and adventurers out there. If that’s you, we hope that’s a well-paid career path. To lay your hands on one, you’ll shell out R19,000. Compared to the Apple Watch Series 8 and SE models, you’re looking at nearly double the most expensive models. The Watch 8 and SE cost R10,500 and R7,900 respectively.

There’s not much choice included either. That’s mainly because the Ultra’s screen is as big as it’s ever been on an Apple Watch, and comes with cellular and GPS functionality. Unlike the other Watches for sale, you don’t get a choice of colour. There is increased choice of bands, including the Alpine Loop, Ocean Band, and Trail Loop, however.

If you move fast, you might have time to get a mortgage on your home or head to the bank for a loan before pre-orders close. The Apple Watch Ultra is hits South African shelves on 30 September.
