Sonos’ Sub Mini is your best choice for bold, balanced bass

If you’re rocking a Sonos system, then a new Sub Mini is a perfect choice to add to your audio arsenal. Providing enough power to rattle your couch, the Sub Mini pairs perfectly with existing Sonos speakers, increasing your auditory output capabilities.

Not that you need it, but even the very best soundbars could use a little boost in the low-end. It’s not a question of capability, everyone just likes a bassy rumble as a movie protagonist zips by in a fast car/plane/spacecraft. That’s exactly what the Sonos Sub Mini provides, without leaping out of financial reach.

Facing worlds

The Sonos Sub Mini follows similar design lines to the full-fat Sub. Dual 6in subwoofers face each other, cancelling out the overbearing rattle less-capable speakers are prone to experiencing. These subs are housed in a well-engineered casing that gives Sonos’ speaker its iconic vented appearance.

Optimised for small-to-medium areas up to 30m2 in size, you’ll experience deeper immersion in whatever media you happen to favour. Whether it’s live renditions of classical music, high-resolution audio, Hollywood blockbusters, or the latest in games, the Sub Mini acts as a suitable complement to your existing sound.

Marvel at fuller, richer sound at the lower end of the audio spectrum, while your existing soundbar handles the middle and higher ends.

Beam me up, Ray

Designed to integrate smoothly with pre-existing Sonos home setups, you can pair the new subwoofer with the Beam family of devices, the new Ray, the One or the One SL. It’ll also hook up to the Sonos Arc, but the Arc… really doesn’t need the help. Still, if you want a little more rumble right next to the couch, the Sonos Sub Mini is the discreet item you want to have right next to your favourite seat.

Connection is as simple as pressing a button to integrate the subwoofer into an existing setup. Even if you have to do it all from scratch, that’s hardly a hardship with the user-friendly Sonos app. Connection is via 2.4GHz or 5GHz WiFi networks, while Sonos’ speakers talk to each other using a very speedy 5GHz connection.

If you feel the need for even less latency, an integrated 10/100 ethernet port ensures that there’s never any network lag.

Sonos’ equalizer system makes certain that all your audio is as crisp and perfect as you want it to be. And, if you have a compatible bit of Apple hardware around, the Sub Mini also supports TruePlay. Perform the setup process and you’ll tune your speaker setup to its environment for even better audio, across the board.

If you’re looking to add a Sonos Sub Mini to your living room or HiFi setup, you’ll be able to do so at the 6 October global launch. For a change, global means ‘global’ and South Africa is on the guest list. Sonos’ newest compact subwoofer will set you back R10,999 from 6 October.
