The problem with buying shoes online? Figuring how out how it fits before hitting ‘order’. That’s about to change. Amazon Fashion is stepping into augmented reality (AR) via its Amazon Shopping iOS app. Called, Virtual Try-On for Shoes, it allows customers to see how a pair of shoes will look on their feet.

Amazon customers can now virtually test-drive shoes from popular brands including New Balance, Adidas, Reebok, Puma, Saucony, Lacoste, Asics, and Superga. It just requires the right app and a pair of feet. Amazon supplies one, you supply the other.
The app is simple to use, with customers tapping on the new Virtual Try-On button below the product image and then pointing the camera at their feet. Customers can move their feet around and see how the shoe will look from all angles.
Customers can use a palette carousel within the app to swap the colour of the shoe they are virtually trialing. Shoe-lovers can also snap a photo of their virtual experience by tapping the share icon. This saves a photo on their device to post to social media. Fancy! And cheaper than actually buying a new set of kicks.
Amazon said in a press release that its AR shopping tool will help brands showcase products while helping customers make choices. “We look forward to listening and learning from customer feedback as we continue to enhance the experience and expand to more brands and styles,” said Muge Erdirik Dogan, president of Amazon Fashion.
