The HONOR X8 has designs on being the best-looking phone you’ve seen in some time

In today’s world, it’s not enough to get the job done anymore. You’ve absolutely got to look good while doing it. That’s true of the trendy folks who dominate the socials, and it’s true of the devices they use. HONOR’s X8 smartphone is just the thing for those folks (and those who want to be like them). It looks good, no matter what it’s doing,

But it’s not superficial, skin-deep attractiveness. The HONOR X8 might have a stellar display, a slim profile, and even skinnier bezels, but they’re the result of actual, functional features. They haven’t been thrown in just for the sake of it.

Weight watcher

The HONOR X8 is just 7.45mm thick and weighs just 177 grams. That’s loads thinner and lighter than most other competing devices. But how was this minor miracle brought about? Actually, there’s a story behind that.

HONOR managed to save some 4 grams in weight by developing and deploying a new alumunium alloy mid-frame bezel plate. An all-new innovation, it saves weight overall while also giving the HONOR X8 its remarkable strength. Despite being skinnier than most phones, it’s capable of standing up to various bends, compressions, and drops. The phone is tested to withstand up to 10,000 bends and drops, survives three-point bend tests, and even shrugs off 1,200 newtons of compressive force.

Narrow it down

That new alumunium alloy mid-frame bezel plate has another function, beyond the weight reduction. It enables HONOR’s new edge-to-edge display. There’s a stunning new 93.6% screen-to-body ratio, which is a fancy way of saying there’s more screen on offer than ever before.

The left and right bezels have shrunk to just 1.1mm, while the top bezel has been compressed to just 1.15mm. A new glue solution, the technical details of which you don’t really need, helps to make this possible. A tweak to the phone’s antenna, which is 30& smaller, also helps with bezel shrinkage. This makes the X8 a class leader as far as bezel thickness goes. You’ll find yourself entranced by the display’s dominance of your palm, with almost no distracting black bars to mar your media consumption.

Quite the display

The 6.7in HONOR FullView display is well worth feasting your eyes on, and not just because the bezels are more or less invisible. The 2,388 x 1,080 LCD screen supports 16.7 million colours, is clear and bright, and should be your first stop for any media playback.

This is thanks to the HONOR X8’s new ultra-thin display, which uses a new composite film and light guide system. These, perhaps amazingly, contribute to the X8’s weight reduction. Lightweight materials and design tweaks save 4.5 grams of weight.

If that’s not enough, the ultra-thing LCD operates at 90Hz, and also ships with TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light Certification. This means less eye fatigue, even after extended usage. Finally, there’s an eBook mode for the display, so you can get your reading hours in without ever straining your eyes. There’s also a dark mode, for those who prefer to read in the darkness but don’t like going blind constantly.

All in all, the HONOR X8 is worth an investment. The HONOR X8 features an excellent display, amazingly thin bezels, and strong, lightweight construction. This means an attractive, but sturdy design that looks and feels more premium than its R4,999 price point would suggest. That’s reason enough to get your HONOR X8 today via MTN, Vodacom, Cell C, Telkom Mobile, Takealot, and selected retail stores.
