Apple reportedly preparing to launch a new iPad Pro featuring an M2 chip

Apple is getting ready to release a new iPad Pro featuring a brand new M2 chip sometime during spring this year, according to Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter. He claimed that a new slate of iPad Pros would release with a new M2 chip, and may also include MagSafe charging.

The last major upgrade for the iPad Pro lineup, Gurman pointed out, was all the way back in 2018. It introduced a USB-C connector, an edge-to-edge display, and of course, improved corners for those who have a higher proclivity for dropping their tablets.

Let the chips fall

According to Gurman, the fact that Apple didn’t launch its new range of iPad Pros this month at its Peek Performance event, is proof enough that the new range will release sometime between September and November

The Apple release date schedule is a well-oiled machine, with many of its products released in the September to November timeframe.

The most recent update to the iPad Pro lineup came in May 2021. It featured the highly anticipated M1 chip. While we’ve seen several upgrades along the way, there’s also been loads of time for a new generation to complete development. Along with a brand new M2 chip, Gurman believes the new iPad Pro will finally include wireless charging and a glass back, a welcome upgrade to any Apple gadget.

We still don’t know much about the rumoured M2 chip, as Apple still has yet to announce it. Gurman expects the M2 chip will be slightly faster than its predecessor, but it will arrive packing a similar eight-core architecture.
