Children are important. They’re our future, even. But there’s starting early, and then there’s going too far. VTech’s Level Up Gaming Chair, a gaming chair designed for toddlers, might just be the latter.
Yup, proper lumbar support and excellent wrist placement don’t have to wait until your child is pre-pubescent. It’s possible to start them before preschool, simply by purchasing this slightly horrifying home addition. It looks like a gaming chair collided with Tex Dinoco from Cars and it’s… it’s kinda growing on us, actually.
VTech just kicked in, yo
The chair features a kiddified version of the moulded seat and backrest you might be familiar with. There are actual black armrests, which look like the most legit inclusion. The splayed base most computer chairs include is present here, but they don’t have wheels on the bottom. Rule #2 (at least) of dealing with toddlers is “Don’t give them wheels yet”.
There’s an interactive keyboard mounted on a tray on one of the armrests. Which, yes, bleeps and bloops and will provide some entertainment for your tyke. The keyboard can be detached, so you can give your child an actual tablet to destroy. Or let the little person have lunch there. Your call. We’re not about to tell you how to raise your kid. There’s also a gaming headset replica (which does nothing) so Junior can be just like Dad in the Twitch stream.
You can’t buy the VTech’s Level Up seat here in South Africa. It’s available from Walmart in the States, in case you know someone on the other side of the Atlantic. It’s relatively affordable at R750 or so ($50), with the added bonus that nobody is judging you for buying one. But that’s what friends are for, surely?
