Vodacom launches Easy2Own credit facility for smartphones

Smartphones are currently at their most expensive in history — which means it’s not easy to invest in one for many folks around the world. Some just don’t

have the means to buy a glass sandwich capable of viewing dank memes and messages from your loved ones. Now Vodacom, the local mobile operator, has launched Easy2Own, a service that functions as a credit facility for smartphones.

Making it Easy2Own, hey?

The service currently only offers Samsung-branded smartphones, and interested customers will pay a monthly instalment for 11 months following a once-off deposit. Pricing starts from R129 for the deposit and R100p/m for the monthly fee. The press release didn’t detail what device this one’s for though.

According to the terms and conditions page on Vodacom’s site, the ‘promotion’ is only available to “Prepaid customers who received a campaign SMS from Vodacom.” So it looks like you’ll have to be an existing Vodacom customer to be eligible for the Easy2Own facility.

“The Easy2Own initiative has been designed with affordability and our customers’ lifestyles in mind. To ensure no one is left behind as we move towards a digital society, Vodacom will continue launching initiatives such as Easy2Own, which drive mobile access in South Africa,” says Davide Tacchino, Vodacom terminals managing executive.

Every customer that manages to pay their monthly instalment on time will get 1GB of mobile data free, valid for seven days. While the press release only details the primary functions of the service, the terms page details more of what will be expected of customers who are keen on Easy2Own.
