If you’re gonna invest in a pair of running shoes, why not opt for ones packed with interesting tech? Under Armour’s latest tekkie, the HOVR Mega 2 Clone features ‘real zero-gravity feel’, adaptive cushioning and personalised fit, along with the UA MapMyRun app integration the company introduced in 2020.
UA’s HOVR living up to its name
While they won’t technically offer zero-gravity capability (if they do, we recommend they take that tech straight to SpaceX), it offers special padding developed to make your run feel as comfortable as possible. It’s fitted with ”…a padded heel collar… a thick sock liner and an upper constructed specifically to meet the runner’s anatomical need.”
This specially constructor inner helps offer smoother landings and transition into the next step, according to UA. Having tested a few of the brand’s previous runners, we can confirm the sole construction and tech really makes a difference out on the road.
That’s thanks to the 3D-moulded sock liner made of 6mm of open-cell PU foam, which will also apparently mould according to each wearer’s foot shape, making it kinda custom. In addition, these come in a few colour combinations, and in both men’s and women’s options.
Our favourite feature in any recent UA shoe (for obvious reasons), is its app connectivity in the form of UA MapMyRun, which connects a device directly to the shoe via Bluetooth. This even works via a few compatible smartwatches, like the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2.
Once connected, the app will give you personalised feedback on how to improve your running. Something that’s nifty for beginners, professional runners and everybody inbetween.
The HOVR Mega 2 Clone running shoes are now available in South Africa from R3,200 depending on the retailer.
