Samsung’s got a new tablet on the way, if a new leak from OnLeaks (the clue’s in the name) is accurate. A render of the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra has turned up online and it suggests there are a few new features coming to market.
It’s been some time since Samsung last launched a flagship tablet — the Galaxy Tab S7 was first announced in August last year, so the S8 lineup is a little overdue. If this render, apparently based on CAD files for the device, is accurate, then Samsung’s also embracing the notch.
Another notch for the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra
It’s not just the notch that’s known, of course. OnLeaks‘ information suggests that there will be three tablets in the series. The Galaxy Tab S8 will measure 11in, the Galaxy Tab S8+ will clock in at 12.4in. The Tab S8 Ultra, pictured above, is a massive 14.6in. It looks as though Samsung just wrenched the top off Apple’s new 14in MacBook Pro and put it on sale as a tablet.
The bezels are skinny as heck, too, which makes us wonder how you’re supposed to hold it. Perhaps there will be a case with a kickstand for this one. Holding a 14in tablet for extended periods is sure to be hell on the wrists and forearms.
Other changes on the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra include dual rear cameras for the supersized slate, because some of you are still using tablets to take photographs with. Stop that, it’s silly. USB-C, quad-speakers, and absolutely no headphone jack are also planned features, as is magnetic charging along the left side — probably for a stylus — though the CAD files used for the render don’t seem too clear on exactly where the attachment point is.
There’s no indication when the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra and its two smaller siblings will be announced. It’s possible Samsung’s holding them in reserve so it can distract from any November surprises from Apple. We should know in a week or three.
