LG Electronics South Africa had big plans to bring its range of TVs, all made up of different tech, to the country in Q3 2021.
Those plans quickly went out the window (quite literally) when the country experienced something called the National Shutdown and many factories, businesses and retail stores were looted. Now it’s ready to launch at least one of the planned products: the 4K 75in QNED Mini-LED TV.
LG slowly reassembled
The QNED range was initially announced at CES 2021 and brings some interesting tech to the brand’s line of TVs. It combines LG’s NanoCell filtering technology with Quantum Dot colour enhancement tech layered over mini-LED backlighting. If you know the brand’s NanoCell panels, you’ll understand that this one slots in comfortably between that and the higher-end OLED panels.
It’s still an LED panel, but they’ve managed to layer their new tech over roughly 30,000 mini-LEDs to make colours crispier and blacks more solid. Pair that with a 4K resolution and 100Hz refresh rate, and you have a real contender for that living room wall. On the sound end, you get Dolby Atmos true 3D audio.
Of course, it’ll be nice to see the QNED range come in more sizes and specs into SA, but considering the company is still recovering from the looting, it’s understandable. LG may bring in the big-boy 8K 75in QNED Mini-LED at a later stage, but that’s not confirmed yet.
