Last year seemed to be the year of the Vivo in South Africa. We saw the brand launch a total of three devices in the territory in 2020, with very little to see this year. Finally, new leaks show off the upcoming Vivo X70 range of devices.
There are three smartphones expected in the range, including the base X70, the X70 Pro and the X70 Pro Plus — and all three of them may play host to different SoCs (system on chips).
According to a Weibo tipster called Digital Chat Station, the X70- range will be revealed on 9 September (that’s… this week) and will feature a MediaTek, Samsung, and Qualcomm SoC in each.
Three Vivomigos
The Vivo X70 Pro Plus features a 6.78in 120Hz AMOLED QHD+ display with a punch-hole up top fitted with a 32MP selfie camera. Around back you’ll find a Zeiss-branded quad-camera setup with a 50MP main sensor, a 48MP ultra-wide, a 12MP portrait and an 8MP periscope shooter.
This one’ll run on the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, a 4,500mAh battery, 55W wired charging and 50W wireless charging support.
Then there’s the Vivo X70 Pro features a 6.56in 120Hz AMOLED HDR+ display and borrows the Pro Plus’ front cam and most of the back camera array. Here you’ll have to settle for a 12MP ultra-wide, however. And it’ll be powered by a Samsung Exynos 1080 chipset, supported by a 4,450mAh battery and 44W wired charging functionality.
On to the base X70 — it also borrows the selfie cam and display from the X70 Pro, but only sports three cameras around the back. Here you get a 40MP main camera, 12MP ultra-wide camera and a 12MP portrait shooter. It’ll be powered by either a Mediatek Dimensity 1200 or an Exynos 1080. Also expect a 4,400mAh battery with support for 44W wired charging.
Seeing as these are leaks, take the specs with a grain of salt until we hear directly from Vivo on 9 September 2021. We’ll likely get local availability info in the coming months if this range is to make its way to SA.
