Microsoft announces Xbox Stereo Headset

Microsoft has unveiled its brand new Xbox Stereo Headset — a wired and more affordable version of its Xbox Wireless Headset that was launched earlier this year.

Available for pre-order right now, the new headset comes in at an R1,200, which is substantially cheaper than the Xbox Wireless Headset (R1,800) and you’ll never need to wait for it to recharge – cuz, ya know, it’s plugged into your gaming rig through a 3.5mm jack.

Microsoft Xbox Stereo Headset features

Boasting the same lightweight design as its wireless counterpart, the headset has an adjustable headband with comfortable cushioning fashioned for heads of all sizes.

According to Microsoft, the set “supports spatial sound technologies including Windows Sonic, Dolby Atmos and DTS Headphone:X for realism and audio precision that fully surrounds you.”

The ultra-soft large earcups won’t rub on your lobes during long sessions, the set has some intuitive controls for volume and mute. It will also connect to any device with the same audio jack-size, so PS owners want to take a punt if they’re without a decent headset at present.

The Xbox Stereo Headset doesn’t have the chat/game audio mixing dial function that the Wireless counterpart does, but hey, that’s a loss a lot of players may be prepared to swallow given the price difference.

There’s no word yet on a hard-release date. We’ll update this story as soon as one is forthcoming. Watch this space.
