The era of linear TV channels is steadily coming to a close, with video-on-demand and live streaming becoming the norm across many different platforms. Now, Showmax (owned by Multichoice, which also owns DStv) will live stream all the matches of the English Premier League, La Liga and Serie A in more than 50 countries across Africa.
Hot on the heels of the audience-less Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Showmax is geared to bring you more sporting action. That’s for all the sports fans, because a subscription to Showmax Pro (the one with the sport DLC) costs significantly more per month than the base subscription plan.
Showmax Pro’s sport, what you get
“Showmax Pro is the only streaming service on the continent to live stream every single match of the English Premier League, La Liga and Serie A and the DStv Premiership, courtesy of SuperSport,” a press release details.
The Premier League’s new season kicks off on 13 August, and being in its 30th year, this is bound to produce exemplary ball-kicking entertainment. We’ll see the newly promoted Brentford host Arsenal for the first game. “The season will end on 22 May, 2022 with all 20 teams playing on the same day, bringing the curtain down on a mammoth 380 fixtures,” the press release reads.
If you’re keen on variety, the service has you covered, with La Liga, the Spanish League beginning on 13 August with an opener between Valencia and Getafe and the local MTN8 slated for this weekend.
Showmax Pro will be live streaming all matches of the English Premier League, La Liga, Serie A and DStv Premier League, while South Africans can also catch the UEFA Champion’s League.
The service’s Pro tier rolled out in June 2020, and thanks to Multichoice’s partnership with SuperSport, it features live access to sporting content from around the world. Showmax Pro costs R450 a month (but it’s running a special), compared to R100p/m for the base package and R40p/m for the mobile version.
