Xiaomi launches its smart 32in Mi TV in India

Xiaomi Mi TV

While we’re yet to see a larger screen by the Chinese mobile brand Xiaomi in South Africa, it’s good to know which Mi TVs it currently has on offer in other countries. The brand recently launched in SA officially, which may indicate we’ll see much more Xiaomi-branded products that aren’t smartphones locally.

This week, the brand launched a 32in smart TV, named the Mi TV 4C, which comes in at a surprisingly low price considering it’s a full-fledged television with smart skills. More interestingly, the launch happened in India via a tweet by the official Mi TV India handle.

Meet the Mi TV 4C

The Mi TV 4C is an HD-ready LED display coming in with 1,366 x 768p resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate. It’s fitted with Xiaomi’s Vivid picture engine backed up by its Patchwal UI software, which we’re yet to test out for ourselves. On the audio front, it features 20W stereo speakers with DTS HD audio.

On to the tech specs, these run on something called an Amlogic 64-bit quad-core processor, with only 1GB of RAM and 8GB storage. Which you may need considering this is an Android TV.

Users can access the Google Play Store and Play Services where all your favourite streaming services are available for download — this includes Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, Play Movies, and Play Music. There’s also built-in Chromecast and Google Assistant functionality.

While there’s no indication of the TV coming to South Africa, we reckon it’s the perfect market for the brand that’s currently glued to headlines for all the right reasons. Converted from Indian Rupees, the Mi TV 4C retails for around R3,000.
