Asus reveals the ROG Zephyrus M16 and S17 gaming laptops

ROG Zephyrus M16

More than anything, brands are investing heavily in gaming-related tech. This is particularly evident in Asus ROG’s ‘Unleash the Tiger’ digital launch event today, where the company revealed two big-screen gaming notebooks in the shapes of the Zephyrus M16 and the S17.

The Zephyrus M16 manages to squeeze a 16in Quad HD display into an ultraslim 15in chassis. Don’t ask us how it manages, but it does apparently. It’s got WQHD resolution with a 165Hz refresh rate, 3ms response time while featuring Adaptive-Sync and Pantone Validation. Same goes for the S17, but here you get a massive 17.3in display that features 4K and 120Hz mode for content consumption.

When it comes to power, these two won’t disappoint. Both are powered by Intel’s powerful new H-series CPUs, along with NVIDIA’s RTX 30-series GPUs. The slimmer M16 can be specced up to the RTX3070, while the S17 can go all the way up to the monstrous RTX3080.

If you’re a fan of the brand’s most recent G-lineup of notebooks, you’ll love the design of these two. They look sleek and sturdy, albeit premium and solid for gaming machines. We can only guess that these aren’t aimed only at the gaming community, with some decent content creation opportunities thanks to its validated displays and impressive processing power.

The S17’s bezels aren’t as slim as the M16’s, but the displays should still look fantastic with features like Dolby Vision and full DCI-P3 coverage. While both machines also feature Asus’ brilliant ErgoLift feature that automatically lifts the keyboard up to a more comfortable spot, the S17 also features a rising keyboard as we saw in the Zephyrus Duo in 2020

According to Asus, the world will get to see the Zephyrus M16 and S17 in the second quarter of this year. We’re still waiting on pricing and local availability confirmation at this point, but it’s safe to say this range of notebooks won’t be particularly affordable.
