While Samsung does have some game-ready laptops, they’re not as prominently featured on “Top Ten Gaming Laptops” lists as those made by the likes of Asus and Alienware. That might be about to change. Samsung has revealed the Galaxy Book Odyssey line, and it boasts some hardware that could impress even the most critical of laptop connoisseurs.
Samsung embarks on an Odyssey
Samsung touts that the Odyssey is all about power, and we’re inclined to believe them. It’s decked out with Intel’s latest 11th-gen CPU, and either NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3050 Max-Q or the 3050 Ti Max-Q graphics cards. While neither of these is the strongest GPU you can find in a laptop right now, they’re still beastly members of the RTX 30 family, and should be respected as such. That CPU-GPU combo should be plenty to have you gaming to the fullest.
Chips aside, the rest of this laptop is nothing to sniff at either. The Odyssey is kitted with Dolby Atmos audio support, a 720p webcam, and even a fingerprint sensor. It’s also got every port you could possibly need: Three USB 3.2 ports, an HDMI, an Ethernet slot, a MicroSD port, and a pair of USB-C outlets. One of these is used for the 135-watt USB-C charger that’ll juice up the 83Wh battery.
Storage-wise, the Odyssey can go all the way up to a terabyte of SSD storage and can sport up to 32GB of DDR4x RAM. All this and a 15.6in HD display will have you sorted for work, play, and anything in between.
When the Odyssey lands in August, its starting price is set at $1,400 (Around R19,900), though local pricing may vary.
