There are few things nicer to do at the moment than kick back and stream a good series while you social distance, which is why it’s great news that Britbox is launching in South Africa this year.
Britbox is a streaming service provided by ITV and BBC Studios that has been around since 2017. The platform offers what it calls an “unrivalled collection” of British TV shows and the best of British box sets. The service also streams live events and even original commissions. It’s like BBC Brit on DStv, but you don’t have to deal with Multi-Choice. On the handsomely English service you can watch Downton Abbey, QI, Mr Bean, and Ricky Gervais’ original The Office, a long with many others.
Since its original release in the US, Britbox has steadily been extending its service to other countries, such as the UK and Australia. Last year, the platform announced its plans to begin rolling out the service worldwide, to 25 new countries.
Britbox your socks off
“The launch of Britbox in South Africa is another step in the platform’s trajectory towards international expansion” said Britbox. The team bringing the service to South Africa is the same that successfully launched it in previous countries. “We’re delighted to bring the platform to a brand new territory.” Said ITV Distribution Director Martin Goswami.
Details such as pricing are unknown right now, but should become available closer to the platform’s launch, which is set to be sometime in the second half of 2021.
