Come 1 April 2021, DStv users will see their monthly deposits look… slightly different. In this case, the bad kind of different, thanks to the recently announced price increase across its range of services.
DStv has managed to keep pricing reasonable, with slight increases across the board. All products, from DStv Premium down to DStv Access will see increases of a few rand. Even so, we’re still in a pandemic, which means users won’t appreciate substantial increases right now.
DStv 2021 prices
Package | Old Price | New Price |
DStv Premium | R819 | R829 |
DStv Compact Plus | R529 | R539 |
DStv Compact | R399 | R409 |
DStv Family | R279 | R295 |
DStv Access | R110 | R115 |
The highest-tier DStv subscription, in the form of DStv Premium, will increase from R819 per month to R829 per month, while the Access Fee will increase from R100 to R105 per month. In 2020, DStv increased its prices by about R10 too, so in two years, Premium has increased from R809 to 829. That’s… kind of substantial, we guess?
That Access Fee is, if you’re not familiar with DStv jargon, the cost of accessing multiple decoders on one account, including access to XtraView or PVR. That’s also broken the R100 mark over the past two years and now sits at R105.
Of course, you’ll see an increase on all accounts, from Compact Plus, Compact, Family, and Access packages. If you’re prone to renting films on the BoxOffice tab, you’ll pay R40 for a title now, up from R35. It’s not a welcome update to its pricing, but we’re sure there’s good reason for it.
