Okay, now we need you to pay attention. We’re only going to say this once — Xiaomi have launched, in partnership with the Mercedes F1 Team, a new scooter called the Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter Pro 2 Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team Edition. We’ll be calling it the XMESP2MAPFTE, or just the Mi Electric Scooter Pro 2, from now on.
A better Scooter Pro 2
Xiaomi’s little two-wheeler, which first turned up about mid-way through last year, has been given a visual tune-up in the form of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team’s colours. But what hasn’t changed is the scooter’s performance. It’ll still manage a top speed of 25km/h and 45km on a charge, while remaining compact enough to tuck under your arm in the event you forget to charge it and need to carry it home.
But, the little battery-powered wonder does include dual braking, ABS braking (on the rear wheel), pneumatic tyres, a headlight (in case you’re mental enough to ride one of these at night), and there’s also a small display in the handlebars, so you can get some device info just before you launch yourself over them.
If you’re keen on laying your hands on a Mi Electric Scooter Pro 2, you can expect to pay some R15,000 (€799) or so for the privilege. Likely with a lovely little markup to get it here. Or you can spend a little over R10,000 for the standard Pro 2, without all the attractive Mercedes F1 branding.
