Apple’s certainly got a lot to deal with right now. They’re currently undergoing a very public legal dispute (that’s turning into a bit of a dog-pile) with Epic Games, they’re still being investigated for anti-trust practices and they’re apparently on the verge of announcing the next iPhone. Rumours have been swirling for ages now regarding Apple’s new flagship release, with many speculating that a delay may be on the cards due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. Pulling at whatever threads they can, Apple fans might have figured out when the next iPhone could be dropping and it’s sooner than anyone was actually expecting.
Spotted by 9to5Mac readers, Apple posted a test feed onto its official YouTube channel that indicates some kind of live stream event that’ll be kicking off on 10 September which is…well, it’s nothing by itself. Yet if we look back through the annals of the company’s history, we’ll notice a trend in iPhone announcements. The iPhone 11 was announced on the same date last year, the iPhone X was on 12 September (2017), iPhone 7 on 7 September (2016) and September 9th saw the release iPhone 6 (2015).
So, what can we gather from that? Well, the most tangible nugget of info is that if the leaked livestream date is accurate then Apple could very well be following its established trend of September launches. Yet the livestream could be announcing…anything, really. That’s why I say that folks might be grasping at straws here. A historical trend does not a release date confirm…but it’s also enough to make it all seem rather credible. So be sure to take your pinch of salt on the way out.
