DStv reveals its DStv Explora Ultra and DStv Streama, merging satellite and streaming options

So you think DStv is done, do you? Eh, we’re not going to judge right now but they certainly want your attention. Today, during the DStv Showcase, Multichoice has announced two new bits of hardware for subscribers — both old and new.

A fine pair

The new hardware consists of the DStv Explora Ultra (yes, there’s another one) and then the DStv Streama. If you’ve used an Explora, you know exactly what this thing does. But it does a little more — DStv has fitted the Explora Ultra with a WiFi connection and the ability to download popular streaming apps. If you want to keep DStv, Showmax, Netflix and Youtube in the same box, here’s where you’ll be able to do it.

The DStv Streama, on the other hand, is the hardware for streaming Showmax (and YouTube, according to the box’s remote control) — It’s a slim DStv-branded streaming box that doesn’t need a satellite dish in order to function. It’s got dedicated DStv buttons but likely incorporates the ability to install other streaming apps as well.

There aren’t any pricing and availability details just yet but the Showcase is ongoing. We’ll let you know as soon as they reveal more info.
