We didn’t know what to expect from a major DStv showcase, but we didn’t expect the Multichoice-owned broadcaster to announce… wait for it… a rewards system.
Called DStv Rewards, the newly announced rewards system will give back to the people who’ve been loyal to the platform for many years, and of course, those that will sign up come the new generation of decoders that were also announced today.
Although details are scarce about the feature, we know that every DStv customer will automatically be signed up to receive rewards, no matter which package they’re subscribed to. We reckon this will work like a point system, gaining viewers points for watching content on one of the DStv platforms — whether it’s satellite, DStv Now or Showmax.

Some of the rewards users will have access to are listed in the teaser video above. It includes the following as potential rewards:
- BoxOffice (free access maybe)
- Upgrades (spend points and upgrade your package?)
- Birthday Rewards
- Service Vouchers
- Showmax discounts
- Channel Access (free access to additional channels?)
- Add movies
- Money-can’t-buy experiences
- Competitions and challenges, and more.
Clearly, we’ll need more details on this if we’re really going to unpack what the new DStv Rewards system means for customers and how they can use it to gain cool extras while bingeing. The website is live, but no further information is currently available.
It’ll launch ‘very, very soon’ according to the teaser.
