We’re going out on a limb in saying that a dinosaur probs won’t fit into your living room. Unless it’s a small one or you live in Richard Branson’s house. What if we told you Google can make a dinosaur fit into any living room thanks to its new augmented reality feature.
Google has added ten AR dinosaurs to its Google search function, including favourites like the Tyrannosaurus rex, Velociraptor, Triceratops, Spinosaurus, Stegosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Ankylosaurus, Dilophosaurus, Pteranodon and Parasaurolophus. Dino-nerds would appreciate that lineup.
The company has been bolstering its AR animal feature since its IO event last year, adding things like cats, emperor penguins and tigers for example. The thing is, the Google AR app would scale animals according to the surroundings, which resulted in all kinds of strange situations: like gigantic ducks in people’s homes.
So even though a T-Rex would definitely not fit into your one-bedroom flat, the app will adjust its size to fit the enormous creature into any space. All of the dinos in the app use graphics that were developed for the Jurassic World Alive augmented reality mobile game.

Unfortunately, not everyone can have the pleasure of enjoying a cup of tea with a Velociraptor. The function is only available on Android devices with ARCore-support, and if you’re on an iPhone, only iOS 11 and up.
Unfortunately, we couldn’t test it with our Google-less Huawei device, even by accessing the browser, so we’re hoping to see similar features roll out to other devices in future. But for now, enjoy Android and iOS users.
