Acer announced a whole host of new laptops and devices yesterday amidst the global lockdown. As expected, there are some powerful devices in this lineup, especially on Predator’s side — the brand’s gaming branch. There were also some unexpected announcements, like Acer Predator’s own energy drink and a gaming chair that massages your back. You read that correctly.
It seems Predator is going all-in on the gaming lifestyle industry, but surely this was clear when it announced the Thronos. Yep, the crazy gaming ecosystem that costs as much as a small house.
But let’s look at the actual hardware first, because that’s what we’re really here for. *We say while Googling how to order the Predator Shot energy drink in SA.*
Gaming machines
We’ve seen these before… right? Yes. Acer’s Predator announcements from yesterday mostly include updates to existing hardware. Here and there chassis were made smaller, but these are largely the same machines.
The refreshed notebooks now sport the latest 10th-gen Intel Core processors, Nvidia GeForce RTX GPUs, and higher refresh rate screens. The company also improved cooling for these refreshed laptops for better thermal performance. The machines will be available starting next month worldwide but we don’t have local pricing just yet. The updates come to the following models:
- Predator Helios 700
- Predator Helios 300
- Predator Triton 300
- Nitro 7
Other weird things
At the end of yesterday’s keynote, Acer announced something, unexpected. But we’re not surprised, to be honest. The Predator Shot is the company’s newest invention. And is basically a ‘gaming focussed’ energy drink like Red Bull. Apparently it’s hella healthy too, but we won’t be testing that function soon…
Another strange but welcome addition to the Predator gaming range is a brand new gaming chair called the Predator Gaming Chair x OSIM. Remember the Thronos? Yeah, this chair is loosely based on that chair, but this time it’s made in collaboration with a massage chair company called OSIM.
The Gaming Chair x OSIM reclines back by up to 145 degrees and has two sets of massage rollers surrounding the spine. It’s designed to keep you chill when you jam, which sounds like a sweet deal to us. This one, we can’t wait to test out. It’s bound to be healthier than the Predator Shot, at any rate.
