Kulula launches an app for check-in, seat selection, flight status and bookings

Kulula.com has launched a new mobile-phone app for people looking to zoom around South Africa in the tin cans with wings we call ‘airplanes’. According to the company, the app will feature “on-the-go ease of check-in, seat selection, flight status and an opportunity to manage their booking, add flight extras and more”.

The app is available on iOS and Android and was developed by Nacelle and Infinea Software Labs. “This venture, combines some of the brightest digital and technology specialists in the country. The aviation industry is forcing players to find enhanced ways of growing and maintaining their customer base and with this in mind, we developed our flagship public product to deliver Kulula passengers with a more seamless travel experience,” says Amanda Mocellin, CEO of Nacelle.

Kulula’s new app is technically still in beta, but already has a few cool functions despite not allowing bookings just yet. It’s even got a social aspect to it, which lets people share information about upcoming trips, boarding passes and the weather forecast at their destination with connections. Which sounds a lot like bragging to us.

With the full ‘second phase’ rollout, the company plans to add flight bookings, geo-location and push notifications, car rental bookings and sharing to other social media platforms.

You can download the Kulula app for Android on Google Play store and for iOS in the App store in its current state. We have no indication when the ‘second phase’ rollout will become available.
