2019 Is fast looking like the year of the folding smartphone. Samsung’s got something in store, Xiaomi’s putting their efforts in front of faces sometime this year and Huawei’s also going to be joining the party. The Chinese company has announced its own pre-Mobile World Congress event for 24 February, just a few days after Samsung’s own reveal event.
What can we expect to see at Huawei’s event? The company’s folding phone, according to Android Police. The website spoke to Huawei’s Consumer Business Group CEO Richard Yu a short while ago, who said, “We look forward to seeing you in Barcelona in February, where we will launch the world’s first 5G smartphones with foldable screen”. And now a new tweet from the company has given us a more specific date: 24 February.

Odds are that we’re going to see a little more than just a folding phone. Mobile World Congress 2019 takes place in Barcelona this year from 25 February and Huawei’s event is expected to reveal the P30 and its siblings, rather than just the folding phone.
But, based on the image on Huawei’s event announcement, their folding device is going to be the headliner. Those are some pretty acute angles in that corner — and the corner looks like it can flex as well. What sorcery is this? Guess we’ll see find out in three week’s time… or when someone in the supply-chain lets the cat out of the bag.
