Mozilla might be planning on convincing Unreal Engine 4 to run effective in a Firefox browser but the technology isn’t confined to gaming. The latest adaptation of the Unreal Engine 4 outside the gaming world is one that is worthy of attention.
Unreal Engine 4 is being enlisted to help Alzheimer’s and dementia patients in the The Forest Project. The ‘game’ is an interactive journey through a virtual woodland and its existence is made possible via the Unreal Engine 4 and Microsoft’s Kinect 2 technology.
The simulation has also been adapted with the aim of giving caregivers a better understanding of how their patients experience the world, a move that might offer them insight that could result in better care.
The Australian project is currently being crowdfunded and if the funding goal of AUS$90,000 is reached, the project might be able to expand its virtual journeys to include a beach or Christmas-like environments.
