Canonical launched a very ambitious crowdfunding campaign last month, hoping to get an Ubuntu-based smartphone off the ground.
The company hoped to secure $32 million from an IndieGoGo campaign in order to make 40,000 smartphones with an Ubuntu operating system. The deadline for the funding has arrived and Canonical have missed their target.
The funding operation is a bit bittersweet as Canonical have broken the previous record for a crowdfunding target, set by the Pebble smartwatch, in the process of trying to get their smartphone off the ground. Unfortunately, while their eventual total of $12, 809, 906 was good enough for the record books, they’ve fallen about $20 million short of their goal.
