There are two new Coolpix S-series cameras on the way from Nikon, the S6500 and S2700 shooters which are both available in a range of bright colours.
The S6500 features a 16-megapixel backlit CMOS sensor, a 12x optical zoom NIKKOR lens that covers the angles from 25 mm to 300 mm and WiFi functions for upload to social networks and websites via mobile devices. A series of Glamour Retouch effects, which alter specific portions of an image, have been introduced including options for lightening skin tones, reducing bags under the subject’s eyes and whitening teeth and eyes. Full HD video recording at 1,920 x 1,080 (30fps) is also included.
The S2700 sits lower on the specifications ladder with a 16 megapixel sensor, 6x optical zoom lens with 4.6mm to 27.6 mm view angles. Aimed squarely at the casual photographer, Nikon is touting its ease of use and visual design over technical aspects. There are several Scene Auto Selector, Special and Filter Effects available to users who may not know their way around a photograph.
The cameras should be available later this month. Pricing has not been revealed.
