Nikon has released two new interchangeable lens camera bodies for South Africa, along with a waterproof casing compatible with both units. The new additions to the Nikon 1 lineup, the J3 and S1, are aimed at more experience photographers and newcomers respectively.
The Nikon 1 range is characterised by lightweight, compact digital camera bodies which are able to fit interchangeable lenses. Both new models will feature Nikon’s Advanced Hybrid AF focusing system, as well as the Smart Photo Selector and the Motion Snapshot functions. The J3 adds the Slow View function, which does what it says on the tin, and Live Image Control which previews settings in the viewfinder before an image is taken. The J3 is claimed to be faster than previous models from Nikon.
The S1 is a brand new product in the Nikon 1 array, being aimed at newbies with a simpler user interface and most of the features available on its more advanced siblings. The J3 features a 14.2 megapixel sensor and “…supports a range of sensitivities from ISO 160 – 6400.” The S1 dials it back a bit with a 10.1 megapixel sensor and an ISO of 100 – 6400. Both cameras support 1080p video recording.
Nikon have also announced a waterproof casing that can fit either camera, along with the 1 NIKKOR VR 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 lens, letting users take them under the sea if they really need to find Nemo and catalogue him.
