The Wall Street Journal has reported that Google intends to open an online store, where the company will sell tablets direct to the public. Some of these devices will apparently carry Google branding and will of course be Android-based.
The devices themselves will apparently be manufactured by Asustek and Samsung Electronics, Google’s hardware partners.
The WSJ has cited an anonymous source who said that the establishment of an online store for Google is in an effort to grow sales of Android tablets, in order to compete with Apple’s iPad. A date for the store’s opening has not been revealed and, when queried, Google declined to comment.
