The all-electric Mercedes-Benz EQC is coming to SA… and it’s fierce

It's pretty early in 2019 to be calling the tech trends, but we're pretty sure of two things: there are going to be a range of folding phones on coffeeshop tables before the year is out, and there are going to be a more electric vehicles (EVs) in parking lots. Sure, we've had the Nissan Leaf and BMW's quirky i3 for years, but sightings of them are pretty rare, and they're not SUVs. Next week Jagua...[Read More]

The LA Auto Show 2018 in pictures

The LA Auto Show is underway this week in, you guessed it, Los Angeles, and if we had to sum it up in two words they’d be “electric vehicles”. If we had to sum it up in six words, they’d be “electric vehicles: so hot right now”. Seriously. Just about every big manufacturer has an EV — or at the very least, a hybrid or three — to show off for the even...[Read More]

Mercedes-Benz confirms its EVs are coming to South Africa in 2019

German car maker Mercedes-Benz is the latest to throw its hat in the South African all-electric vehicle ring. Well, it hasn’t actually flung, but it’s shown us the hat, and confirmed its intentions to fling. In addition to bolstering its hybrid offerings, the company plans to begin selling its luxury compact all-electric SUV, the EQC, locally in mid-2019. It also plans to offer 10 all-...[Read More]

Merc to take on Tesla with their own home battery

Tesla might have grabbed a lot of attention with the Powerwall but they’re not going to be hogging the limelight for long. Mercedes-Benz are also throwing their hat into the home battery ring with an unnamed (in English, at any rate) energy cell. The company’s planning on Home and Business models of energy storage. According to Daimler, the Home versions consist of “[u]p to eight...[Read More]

CES 2105: The Mercedes-Benz F 015 is an autonomous piece of art straight out of a science-fiction film

Where is your third space? Is it the little coffee shop you sneak to in order to catch up on some emails over a cappuccino? Or perhaps it’s the garden shed, where you escape life’s many miseries over some power tools and a beer or two. Er… not in too close proximity, obviously. Whatever it may be, Mercedes believes that in the future its fully autonomous luxury machines will be t...[Read More]

Mercedes-Benz unveil their take on a self driving vehicle – a truck on the Autobahn

Last Friday, Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz, helped to further ensure that we’ll see self-driving cars in our future when they unveiled a self-driving truck. The Future Truck 2025 uses a system called Highway Pilot, w...[Read More]

Check out an extended demo of Apple’s CarPlay in a Volvo

A couple of days ago, we talked about Apple’s CarPlay, which was unveiled this week at the Geneva Auto Show. So far the system has been showcased in Ferrari and Mercedes-Benz motorcars, but the latest video gives viewers an extended look on how the system will work with Volvo. Unfortunately the system is only showcased in a concept vehicle, as with the Ferrari and Mercedez-Benz, but hopefully we w...[Read More]

The world’s newest Mercedes is a… surfboard?

Okay, this is a little weird for a German motoring company. It seems that Mercedes Benz has been involved in the creation of an extremely limited run of surfboards for big-wave surfer Garrett McNamara. That does mean that the boards, which have been dubbed the Silver Arrow of the Seas (or Arrows, if you prefer), are not going to be available for sale any time soon. The naming is rather appropriate...[Read More]

Mercedes demos an upcoming autonomous S-500

Mercedes-Benz have released a video of a prototype S-Class Merc driving itself across through a wide range of areas, from rural to urban. The vehicle, called the S-500 Intelligent Drive, is only part of a test for upcoming autonomous cars from the motor manufacturer but the 100 kilometer drive is a positive step towards a self-driving car. The car navigated traffic circles, traffic lights, corners...[Read More]

Mercedes-Benz to use QR codes to facilitate speedier rescues for crash victims

Mercedes-Benz and parent company Daimler are going to be using QR codes on upcoming and current vehicles that will assist rescue workers to make the rescue sheet, a document detailing the design of the car, more easily accessible. Mercedes will be placing two QR codes, “one on the fuel tank flap and the other on the B-pillar on the opposite vehicle side”, on their motor vehicles that w...[Read More]
