Samsung’s Unpacked event has confirmed its next wearable, the Samsung Watch 4 series. Although this definitely does not come as a surprise thanks to the copious leaks beforehand (thanks Evan).

The Samsung Watch 4 will come in two flavours: the Watch 4 and the Watch 4 Classic. Each of these will come in two sizes, 40mm/44mm for the former and 40mm/46mm for the latter. Both variants will feature either a 1.2in or 1.4in Super AMOLED, full-colour always-on display, protected by Gorilla Glass DX.

These will be the first devices to feature the new OS that Samsung has been working on with Google: Wear OS powered by Samsung. This means you’ll get to access all your favourite Google apps, like Google Maps, so you won’t have to whip out your clunky phone if you get lost. LTE capability on one variation means that you could even leave your smartphone at home while you go on a run.

The Watch 4 sens(e)ors what you need

The Watch 4 comes equipped with a number of sensors, some of which will help you get the most out of your downtime by monitoring your breathing, blood oxygen levels and even record your snoring. We hope that’s all it records. even record you snoring

It also features a blood-oxygen sensor, ECG monitoring, blood pressure tracking and something called Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA). This allows the watch to send a very small electrical signal through your body to detect muscle mass, body fat percentage, and metabolic rate.

Looking inside, both the smartwatches will feature Samsung’s own Exynos W920 Dual Core chip with 1.5GB RAM + 16GB internal storage. The big 44mm/46mm versions will get a 361mAh cell while the smaller chaps will get the smaller 247mAh cell, with wireless charging across the board.

If you’re a collector or just enjoy standing out then look out for the limited Thom Browne edition of the Watch 4 which will be available next year.
