You'll often catch me dreaming of a Wind Waker remaster. Or sleeping. One of the two.

We’re less than two weeks away from August’s official petrol, diesel and paraffin price change — officially kicking in on Wednesday, 2 August – and they’re not looking so hot. They might not stay that way, though. Don’t forget, these are just predictions, made possible by the Central Energy Fund’s (CEF) data and don’t reflect the real price we’ll see added to the pumps. That said… It’s not often the CEF is far off the mark. The figures presented below are likely to be similar to the real price come August, which is decided by the Department of Energy (DoE).…

Goodbye Twitter, hello X The day we’ve long been dreading (or rather, awaiting in nervous anticipation) has finally arrived. Twitter is no more, and ‘X’ — yes, that’s the name and not his kid’s nickname — will reign supreme. At least that’s what the company’s capricious owner said in a slew of tweets on Saturday evening, noting that the app’s name would be changing, along with the iconic blue bird that’s so inextricably linked to it. “And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds,” he tweeted. He later went on to say, “It…

When it comes to Sad Owl Studio’s Viewfinder – which recently hit the PlayStation and Steam stores – perception is everything. It’s not often that a game comes along introducing mechanics so outlandish that it changes the way you see things. In fact, the last thing to check that box was Portal 2. Viewfinder isn’t quite on that level, but it’s come the closest to reaching the high bar Valve set in 2011. We knew we were in for a good time after the first few minutes of the game’s demo, which made the rounds on social media a couple…

Netflix is finally following through on its promise of cracking down on password sharing in the global market. And after months of slipping under the radar, South Africa has been included in the streamer’s final push which implements the ‘new’ password-sharing rules in every country where Netflix operates. That means accounts living outside of the primary account holder’s residence will no longer be able to access Netflix, with the streamer forcing those members to pay for their own accounts. Yeah, we’re not fans either. Netflix has already begun sending emails to those affected South African members, warning them of the…

When someone mentions “wearables” in the tech space, we’re betting the first thing that pops to your head is a smartwatch, a pair of wireless earbuds, or possibly even AR glasses like the kit Apple is betting big on. If you thought of a smart ring, we’d call you a liar or a fan of the Oura. Or, perhaps, you just read the headline. Whatever the case, a “Samsung Galaxy Ring” is reportedly on the horizon from the South Korean giant. Ring a ring a Rosie That’s according to a report from The Elec (via SamMobile), which claims that Samsung…

Threads, that new social media app that was known as a ‘Twitter killer’ for all of 24 hours, has finally released an update that “fixes” some of the issues we encountered when we first tried out the app back on its launch day. The first of many, we reckon, if it wants to stand any real chance of competing with Musk’s plaything. The app’s lack of certain features didn’t stop the Twitter rival from gaining 100 million users in its first week, though the absence of any real content, too-many blue ticks, and no “following” tab seems to have caused…

Meta’s been on a bit of a tear lately. We’re obviously not talking about anything to do with Facebook and by extension, the metaverse, but Threads seems to be doing well… oh. WhatsApp, at least, has been on form with updates, with the Meta-owned messenger continuing that streak with its latest update, spotted by the folks over at WABetaInfo. WhatsApp, dawg? The update in question involves allowing users to start conversations with unsaved contacts (making it easier to screen them), thus simplifying and speeding up the chatting process. Before, it was possible to respond to a message from an unsaved…

It was only a matter of time. How could it not be? What with the internet telling us almost daily that AI is an extinction-level threat that needs to be at the forefront of our minds at all times? At least until whatever new fad sweeps the internet’s attention span in 2024. Until then, we must be ‘responsible’ when it comes to artificial intelligence. That’s exactly what The South African Artificial Intelligence Association (SAAIA) is looking to promote. Never heard of The SAAIA before? That’s because it only launched last month. The SAAIA is a new “industry body focused on…

Call of Duty isn’t going anywhere (on PlayStation) Now that the Microsoft/Activision Blizzard merger is finally over, Call of Duty is safely in the hands of Xbox. Fortunately, Microsoft is being the bigger company here, and won’t be making the series a console exclusive. In fact, Microsoft has signed a “binding agreement” to keep Call of Duty on the PlayStation, tweets Xbox head Phil Spencer. That should ease the suffering of those that thought Microsoft was attempting to squash the competition with the acquisition, though the software giant has yet to make any comment on the console exclusivity of its…
