Switching over from an iPhone or Android device to a newly Google-less Huawei smartphone is fairly straightforward. You can essentially copy apps over using third-party sharing software. But coming in blind to a new ecosystem has its drawbacks. Especially if the app store isn’t equipped with your go-to apps. Finally, Huawei’s AppGallery now plays host to South African bank FNB’s mobile app.  “We are happy to welcome FNB to the HUAWEI AppGallery family of apps. Given the high smartphone penetration in South Africa banking apps are a key priority for consumers. Huawei has been working hard over the past year…

Call of Duty takes a trip to the Cold-War era, bringing with it phenomenal neon lighting, Russian spies, ‘copter battles in Nam and nimble, intuitive gunplay. Black Ops fell off the wagon a tad in 2019, when Black Ops IV forgot to produce a full-length campaign. Instead, Activision/Treyarch pushed its luck with all-online modes, including a battle royale, multiplayer and zombies. While two of those are important for any Black Ops title, it lacked that story deep-dive many fans love. With Cold War, the developers made up for all those losses with a great war simulator made specifically for next-gen. …

You’ll be able to place scale-sized characters in your living room, garden or wherever your WiFi reaches, really.  Mobile Mandalorian Built on Google’s ARCore platform, the AR…

Leading up to the 2020 pandemic (remember this intro in 20 years’ time when your children ask about it), food delivery in SA was… below par to say the least. In some cases, you would have waited for five to seven workdays for your bread and milk delivery to arrive. And sometimes the shop just didn’t have stock and wouldn’t credit back your money. But since then, grocers have streamlined the process. Now Woolworths wants to join in the fun with its upcoming delivery app called Woolies Dash. Coming in with a Dash Woolies South Africa tweeted out a teaser…

Every year, like clockwork, techies across South Africa and beyond surface in retail spaces (online or otherwise) to upgrade their age-old dinosaur gadgets for something shinier. Some of the most sought-after of those products bear the Apple logo, and we finally know what iStore South Africa has in store for Black Friday 2020.  As with most things tech, high overheads make it pretty impossible to bring prices down to more… affordable levels. So if you’re expecting massive 70% off slashes on Apple hardware, turn away now. There are some decent deals on smaller pieces of hardware, however.  The iStore ‘Deals’…

It’s easy to make jokes about government agencies using webcams to spy on people, but when it really happens, everyone’s up-in-arms. Even worse, it’s not the government spying on you — it’s the big tech corps we trust with all our personal information. On that note — Facebook just patched a bug that allowed people to snoop on other users through Messenger calls. Even though we don’t know many people who actually use Messenger to call people, apparently there are people who do (you maniacs). Facebook picked up a bug that allowed anyone to access calls through its messaging app.…

The absolute exhilarating feeling we felt when PlayStation teased the Spider-Man sequel in its PlayStation 5 reveal event hasn’t died down quite yet. Insomniac Games’ newest tile, developed for next-gen continues to impress.  This is why we have next-gen titles like Spider-Man: Miles Morales.  Picking up in the winter months of the beautifully rendered city of New York, the game starts where Spider-Man left off, masking a new Spidey in the form of youngster Miles Morales. It doesn’t take its time diving into action, featuring an extended, pulse-pounding enemy encounter that can proudly stand alongside any of the previous game’s…

If you were betting on spending your lockdown savings on an Xbox Series X or Series S console for Christmas, you may have a hard time finding one. Current shortages of the newly launched Microsoft consoles seem likely to continue well into 2021.  Microsoft recently announced the shortage in stock in a virtual press conference. During the conference, CFO Tim Stuart said that he expected Xbox Series X and S shortages to continue into the first calendar quarter of 2021 — that is, through March. “I think we’ll continue to see supply shortages as we head into the post-holiday quarter,…
