You may have noticed that Stuff has been gearing up to give away a Fender Newport Bluetooth speaker. If you haven’t noticed that, then you haven’t been spending enough time on social media. Which… may be a good thing. Except for the whole missing-out-on-the-giveaway part. But a lot of you didn’t miss out. We had one condition for the Fender Newport speaker giveaway: We wanted your songs. Which will then become our songs, in a roundabout way, since we were planning on turning them into a Spotify (and just general) playlist to use for testing speakers and headphones in the…

If you’re looking for the market leader for a specific device type you’re probably going to be investigating which company has shipped the most units — a good way to find out who is king of the smartphone hill. The latest IDC report, which keeps track of this sort of thing, actually has a few surprises this time around. Not with the market leader, that’s still Samsung, but Apple’s not sitting in the number two spot any more. The post is now occupied by Chinese company Huawei. Huawei has managed to bump Apple a little lower on the podium for…

Elon Musk has been diversifying an awful lot lately. It’s not enough that he makes rockets, electric cars, tunnel-making machines, high-end batteries, clothing, and flamethrowers. Tesla, over the weekend, put up and then sold out of a Tesla-branded surfboard. The company has put together just 200 of these surfboards, which are a combination of Tesla’s carbon fibre (which makes up the black top surface), design work from Tesla Design Studio, and the shaping chops of Lost Surfboards and Matt “Mayhem” Biolos — the shaper known for making kit for World Surf League Championship competitors. Each board is being made to order, to…

Unfortunately we’ve gone and spoiled things with the headline but we’re willing to bet that if you weren’t aware that Fallout Miami was a player-made mod, you’d assume that Bethesda had gone and sneaked in a new Fallout release while you were distracted by Fallout 76. Go ahead. Go ahead and watch the official Fallout Miami trailer and then tell us that it doesn’t feel like someone went and took Fallout: New Vegas (the best Fallout that isn’t turn-based) and dumped it into the swampy, lunatic-filled setting that is Miami, Florida. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPtAjvtJhf8 The game mod is unmistakably made from existing…

Samsung’s not very good at keeping secrets, something we’re still not sure isn’t completely intentional on their part. The latest secret the company has failed to keep is the Galaxy Watch, the next wearable device to enter the market. We’re familiar with the likes of Samsung’s wearables, with the most recent being the Gear S3 range. An announcement for the Gear S4 is supposedly imminent, but there’s also talk of the line either being renamed to the Galaxy Watch, or a whole new line arriving under the new moniker in addition to a Gear S4. A leak on Samsung’s own website…

Aquaman is looking like the next DC movie we absolutely have to see Okay, so the last few Superman and Batman films... weren't great. The one with both of them, even less so. But Wonder Woman was an absolute blast and we've got similar hopes for the upcoming Aquaman. The often-mocked superhero's live-action outing got

We’ve been keeping an eye on the antics of one Frank Zapata for some time now, ever since 2014 when he came out with the aquatic HoverBoard. Then there was the Flyboard Air, which is basically a portable jet engine that set a world distance record in 2016. Over water, we have to stress. Well, good old Franky is back with the Flyboard Air and this time he’s left the safety of water, opting instead to race a Lamborghini, impress kids, and fly over a bit of water. Hey, if you’re zipping by things at 166km/h in mid-air you want…

It is written by the late, great Terry Pratchett in The Way of Mrs. Cosmopilite, there’s a lot that goes on that we don’t know about. Hey, it works for Lu-Tze. But there’s also a bit of truth there for the rest of us, as this trailer for General Magic shows. And don’t feel bad if the words ‘General Magic’ don’t immediately throw up a memory of a Silicon Valley company circa 1990 to 1994 (it closed down in 2002). The company, which played host to some of the more influential names in tech (including Andy Rubin and Android and…

It’s time for another issue of Stuff Magazine to hit shelves and drop jaws, and the July-August 2018 edition isn’t mucking around. You’re going to i8 us for this one, but we’ve had an early look at the BMW i8 Roadster and it absolutely justifies its place on the cover. Oh, but the July-August 2018 headliner isn’t alone. It’s brought friends, from all over the consumer-technology world.  Stuff spent a long, arduous time checking out all of the newest gaming releases at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (better known as E3) and we’ve gone and collected the very best of…
