Mortal Kombat is one of the most cherished and respected video game franchises around and not just because it was literally the reason parental guidance ratings were invented in the first place. The hyper-violent franchise is known for comically over-the-top fatalities and an expansive cast, one that in recent years has been bolstered by some A-tier guest characters.
Some people hate that Mortal Kombat has included such fighters as Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees and Leatherface but honestly, we think it’s damn cool. The guest character roster has just grown even bigger following yesterday’s announcement that the next big get for the series is none other than John Rambo, voiced by Sylvester Stallone himself.
I can see a Rambostu
Rambo’s inclusion in Mortal Kombat 11, the latest entry in the long running franchise that launched last year, comes as part of the game’s Ultimate Edition which releases 17 November. You can pre-order Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate now and net yourself the base game and the Aftermath DLC, if that’s a reason to get excited about a pre-order. The Ultimate Edition also brings with it returning characters Mileena and Rain… who are cool but let’s honest with ourselves: They’re not John Rambo.
Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate Edition bundles together all the game’s previous character packs alongside these three newcomers. Soon we’ll be able to have actual match-ups like Rambo vs Robocop. Or better yet, speaking as comic book nerds, The Joker beating the life out of Spawn. Sure, some people might call these character inclusions cheap cash-ins but to hell with ’em. We think it’s cool!
Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate is dropping on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X next month and if you already own the game, then developer Netherealm has you covered. From the PlayStation blog announcement, “…new buyers on PlayStation 4 can access a free upgrade to the PS5 version of their game at no extra cost, available in conjunction with the Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate launch.” The same applies for purchases made on the Xbox One; the upgrade to the Series X will be free.
