As the smartphone market continues to have endless choices for consumers, the assortment of options seems to heavily favour the mid-tier to premium end of the scale. Recognising this, HONOR is putting its best foot forward in order to cater for consumers found on the entry-level end of the market.
Although friendly to the pocket, there’s nothing entry-level about HONOR’s new X5d s. With two screens and colour options available in Forest Green and Midnight Black, the device has technological and design quality that is class-leading in its category.
The new device is packed with features that are sure to delight the consumer. From a display aspect, it has a 6.78 inches main screen, with a 2.01 inches secondary screen. Resolution is at 720×1576 pixels for the main display and 240 x 296 pixels for the secondary display, with peak brightness at 600 nits for the main screen, all encased in aluminosilicate glass. This compact unit will make sure that you don’t miss a single angle as you view your favourite skits or streaming movies on your phone. The X5d s’ back screen allows for loads of fun activities such as taking a one-tap selfie, which lets the small back screen act as a live preview window, so you can take the best selfies of you and your friends. For the animal lover, the back screen brings a “touch of fun” to your daily use through personalised interactive themes such as the “Select a Pet” feature, through which you can set up an interactive digital pet right on the rear display. The pet reacts to your touches, sleeps when the phone is idle, and acts as an adorable companion throughout the day.
The 50MP rear camera is supported by shooting capabilities, with 4X digital zoom. On the front end, the camera boasts a 5MP camera that is supported by 1080P (1,920 x 1,080) pixels of video shooting capabilities, ensuring that all your content looks sharp, whether you’re at a graduation ceremony or attending your very first Amapiano show.
Of course, a carefully planned day of adventure at the mall or at the football field to watch your favourite rising kasi flava star can fall flat if your battery can’t stay on the entire time. As a solution to avoid such scenarios, the X5d s’ Lithium-ion polymer battery is up to the task at a capacity of 6,000 mAh, boosted by 15W of charging power – recording your friend’s entire first set as an up-and-coming DJ at the hottest local spot will not be a problem with such long-lasting battery power.
As you’ve come to expect it in most HONOR devices, durability and protection remain key. In the X5d s, it comes in the form of IP52 water and dust resistance that will ensure that you stay at the centre of what’s happening from this Spring through the summer-filled Festive Season.
The HONOR X5d s retails at a recommended price of R2 499, and will be available at all stores nationwide in two colours, Forest Green and Midnight Black, from the 7th of October 2026.
