Amazon Prime's 'free' monthly games will leave you feeling high on life

It’s September, which means it’s time to get your money’s worth from Amazon by cashing in on a bunch of free PC games. After you’ve handed over your monthly payment of R60/m, of course.

See, every month, Amazon gives its Prime subscribers access to a bunch of PC games, all of which they can keep (even after they’ve ditched Prime).

This month’s selection — including heavy-hitters like Doom Eternal — makes the R60/m worth it. Even if you don’t get to those games right away, there’s something special in knowing you’ve hurt the overlords’ bottom line just a little. Kind of. With so few people claiming these titles every month, the hit probably doesn’t even register.

You’ll want to have a few things ready before you start claiming (here). Namely, accounts for the Epic Games Store, Good Old Games (GOG), Legacy Games, and Amazon Games. Keep ’em handy as you start claiming. Certain games will require the user to punch in a redeem code on the corresponding platform before it’ll be yours.

Others, like the Epic Games Store, will need you to link it with your Amazon account if it’s your first time. After that, games claimed that are tied to Epic will automatically be added to your library. Once claimed, however, the games will remain yours forever. Even cancelling Amazon Prime won’t be enough to drag them out of your library.

At the moment, the highlight for September is easily Doom Eternal from 2020. The original Doom and Doom II are also up for grabs if you’re in more of a retro mood. Or you can wait ’til High on Life lands next week. You could also go for something a little different. Botany Manor looks interesting, what with its The Witness-looking style.
