There have been a few members of the ‘Pulse’ family at PlayStation, all of them audio-focused. The latest to join the crew, however, would rather be as far away from your ears as possible. Instead of a pair of in- or over-ear headphones, Sony’s Pulse ‘Elevate’ would sit comfortably on your desk as wireless speakers.
If only these were digital, said no one
Sony first announced the Pulse Elevate desktop speakers in 2025, with the promise that they’d be out sometime in 2026. The company is cutting it rather fine, with plans to open up pre-orders in September and an official release date of 12 November. South Africa’s PlayStation distributor, Koodoo, confirmed they’ll be available locally. Official pricing is still unconfirmed at the time of writing, though. We’ll update this article when we know more.
They don’t look half-bad, either. Sure, the actual design is slightly silly, but we can’t ignore the tactile buttons up top, nor the midnight black colourway. They’re designed to work with the PS5, PS5 Pro, PC, and Mac when sat at the desk. They’re portable, too, meaning you can hook ’em up to a Portal, smartphone, TV, or TV box.

Tech-wise, we wouldn’t mind subjecting our ears to what Sony’s cooked up. Each speaker is fitted with “studio-inspired” planar magnetic drivers, which are meant to help get the sound across just as the developer intended. A built-in woofer handles the bass and lends a hand to support the PS5’s Tempest 3D AudioTech.
They won’t sit idly by during something competitive. The Pulse Elevate are also equipped with microphones — and AI-enhanced noise-rejection tech, allowing you to chat in the party without your speaker noise feeding through. If that all sounds good, we’d recommend you start saving now. Even without official local pricing, the $220 (∼R3,600) price tag over in the States doesn’t exactly fill us with confidence.
